TODAY IN PHILIPPINE HISTORY

The Philippine Air Lines, Inc, Philippines’ flag carrier, took flight for the first time. The single Beechcraft Model 18 NPC-54 was put in service on a daily filght between Manila (from Nelson Field) and Baguio. PAL was acquired by a group of businessmen led by Andres Soriano and former Senator Ramon Fernandez.

The Airline is the first and oldest commercial airline in Asia operating under its original name. Philippine Airlines is the only airline in the Philippines to be accredited with the IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA) by the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
