TODAY IN PHILIPPINE HISTORY

The farmers, organised by Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas (Peasant Movement of the Philippines) and joined by militant groups Kilusang Mayo Uno (May One Movement), Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (New Patriotic Alliance), League of Filipino Students and Kongreso ng Pagkakaisa ng Maralitang Lungsod (Unity Congress of the Urban Poor) marched to Malacanang to protest the lack of government action on land reform.

Upon reaching Mendiola Bridge, the marchers clashed with the police line. Shots were then fired leaving 13 people dead and scores other wounded.
