#SALAWIKAIN: “Huwag magbilang ng sisiw kung hindi pa napipisa ang itlog”

“Don’t count the chicks before the eggs hatch.”

A salawikain that reminds us that celebrating a win before even starting the race is foolish and will only have consequences.

The cartoon shows of a person already assuming that he will win the lottery right before the draw. In extreme cases, people already buys expensive appliances and cars through lending as they are already counting their winnings right before a single number is drawn.

This proverb is normally reiterated by elders when a person is being overconfident – reminding him to try to be realistic and humble, as a negative result would have consequences.  In a sports event, for example, instead of focusing on wearing the medal, lifting the trophy and/or planning where to spend the prize money, focus first on trying your best to win the competition.
