PHILIPPINES’ NATIVE LANGUAGES

Did you know? There are 175 languages/dialects in the Philippines (depending on how you classify them)? Four of those languages no longer have known speakers or already extinct. See list here >

During the Spanish colonization, until its reaffirmation as the Philippine national language during the 1899 Malolos Constitution, Spanish was the original official language of the Philippines. It was later on replaced by English and Filipino – the two widely accepted and spoken languages in the Philippines today.
