This is often provided as a reminder to those who seek too much that this can have a negative effect. A good example is a worker who works too much to earn a lot but at the expense of his/her health or family.
Having a balance of needs and wants should always be the goal in life. Having too much will always have consequences. While it is good to exert effort to achieve, a person should always have a check for what might get sacrificed if he pushes too much.
