TODAY IN PHILIPPINE HISTORY

As a student of the University of Santo Tomas, Jacinto Zamora y del Rosario led a student demonstration demanding the removal of the newly appointed Mayor of Manila. Zamora was punished for this act by being confined to his quarters for 2 months.

Zamora later became a priest and a martyr. He is to become one of the three priests who were executed by garrotte in Bagumbayan after a mock trial that found them guilty of mutiny. The other two martyr priests are Fr. Mariano Gomez and Fr. Jose Burgos. They later became known as GomBurZa.
