TODAY IN PHILIPPINE HISTORY:

What is now known as the Judicial and Bar Council (JBC) was created.  The JBC is under the supervision of the Supreme Court, it is composed of the Chief Justice as ex-officio Chairman, the Secretary of Justice and a representative each of the two houses of Congress as ex-officio Members, a representative of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines (IBP), a professor of law, a retired Member of the Supreme Court, and a representative of the private sector.

The President shall select the next Justices, Judges or Ombudsman or Deputy Ombudsman from a list of at least three nominees prepared by the JBC for every vacancy.
