TODAY IN PHILIPPINE HISTORY
One of the Philippines’ active volcanoes, Mayon Volcano of Albay Province (known for its perfect cone), delivered its most devastating eruption killing an estimated 1200 people (PHILVOCS est.).
The dark ashes coming from the volcano buried the town of Cagsawa. Areas around it were also damaged.
It is believed that this eruption contributed to the “Year Without a Summer” phenomenon in 1816.
