TODAY IN PHILIPPINE HISTORY

Nearly 4000 prisoners of war in the University of Santo Tomas (UST) internment camp in Manila was liberated from the Japanese forces which signalled the start of the full American control over the Japanese. The Japanese troops, angered by the attack, took out their anger on the civilians committing multiple acts of severe brutality (later known as Manila Massacre).

An estimated 100,000 Filipino civilians and 12,000 Japanese soldiers perished from this battle which lasted for a month ending in March 3, 1945.
