TODAY IN PHILIPPINE HISTORY

Dr. Hilario D. G. Lara, regarded as the Father of Modern Public Health in the Philippines was born. In 1985, the prestigious National Scientist Award was given to him by President Ferdinand Marcos.

Among his accomplishments are:

  • The establishment of the Institute of Public Health at the University of the Philippines.
  • Helped establish the National Research Council of the Philippines.
  • Organized the first medical library in the Philippines
