Today in Philippine History

Felix Resurreccion Hidalgo, one of the greatest Filipino Painters of the 19th century was born in Binondo, Manila. One of his career highlights is winning the silver medal in the 1884 Madrid Exposition of Fine Arts (another Filipino great painter Juan Luna was the gold winner).

He won individual honours in many other Art Expositions. His major and most controversial mural is the Assassination of the Governor Fernando Manuel de Bustamante, which shows friars murdering the governor.
