Today in Philippine History

Defense Minister Juan Ponce Enrile along with 400 men gathered at Camp Aguinaldo after receiving reports of impending mass arrests of opposition leaders and Reform the Armed Forces Movement Officers. Armed Forces Vice Chief of Staff Lt. Gen Fidel V. Ramos later joined them. Both withdrew their support from the Marcos regime and confirmed the massive cheating in the snap election.

Jaime Cardinal Sin, Archbishop of Manila later aired an appeal over Radio Veritas calling for support after Enrile called him. Enrile also called Corazon Aquino, who was in a really in Cebu. She sought refuge in a missionary convent; while the United States offered her safety passage which she refused.

Marcos also held his own press conference appealing to the rebel faction to surrender. By this time, people are starting to march to EDSA, heeding the call of Cardinal Sin.
