notes

Christmas Day, Boxing Day, New Year’s Day and 2 January Holiday are observed on the actual day when they fall on a weekday.  If any of these holidays fall on a Saturday or Sunday, any of the two will apply:

  • If the employee would normally have worked on a Saturday or Sunday, then the public holiday is observed on a Saturday or Sunday.
  • If the employee would NOT normally have worked on a Saturday or Sunday, then the public holiday is observed the following Monday and/or Tuesday.

From 1st January 2014, Waitangi and ANZAC day will be “Mondayised” (or observed the following Monday) if they fall on a Saturday or Sunday.
