TODAY IN PHILIPPINE HISTORY:

MV Princess of the Stars ferry capsizes off of Philippines. Over seven hundred people were missing after a ferry capsized off of the coast of the Philippines after encountering harsh seas caused by Typhoon Fengshen. Rescue ships had found only four survivors and hoped that others had managed to swim to shore or find safety somewhere.

The ferry, heading to the central province of Cebu from Manila, ran aground and capsized a few kilometres off central Sibuyan island in the centre of the country’s archipelago.

The coast guard was unable to reach it because of huge swells caused by Typhoon Fengshen, which began lashing the central Philippines late Friday.
